another hit from lalatten
Rating The top five Malayalam films are:

1. 'Rock n Roll' - Mohanlal's stylish goatee and ponytail don't really enthuse, but this being the first week, the film directed by Ranjith makes it to the top.

2. 'Chocolate' - This Shafi film is still going strong at the box office, proving to be a boon for Prithviraj the hero, who can now claim a hit to his name.

3. 'Naalu Pennungal'- Adoor Gopalakrishnan's adaptation of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai's four short stories is a unique experience for viewers.

4. 'Hareendran Oru Nishkalangan?' - Director Vinayan tries to depict the problems of entrepreneurs in Kerala. Indrajith plays a self-made man who has to face the consequences of being successful.

5. 'Black Cat' - Director Vinayan is known to be prolific. He proves this again with two of his films entering this list.

Rock `n` Roll` does not rock!

By Moviebuzz | Last updated : Wednesday, 21 November , 2007, 10:11

Ranjit’s eagerly awaited Mohanlal film Rock ‘n’ Roll failed to rock at the Kerala box-office!
But even more shocking is that the film also failed to take an opening as die-hard Mohanlal fans distanced themselves from the film. In Thiruvananthapuram, traditionally a Mohanlal masala film, on day-one opens to full house, but Rock ‘n’ Roll did not register 100 percent!

The trouble with Rock ‘n’ Roll according to the fans was the title itself did not suit a Lalettan film. Added to that, his weird costumes (spotting a pony tail, wearing chunky beaded chains and a ear ring!) and the look of the film was jarring. They also say that the story looked similar to Ranjit’s earlier films mainly Chandrolsavam and there was nothing new in the packaging.

The trade is shell shocked by the lukewarm opening; no Mohanlal commercial film has taken such a bad opening in recent times. Rock ‘n’ Roll is Mohanlal’s fourth flop in a row, starting with Ali Bhai, Ramgopal Varma Ki Aag and Pardesi.
