Before we get to the film, it is absolutely important to actually know the man behind it. KC Bokadia. He was easily one of the better known names in the '80s and early '90s. During this period he made films with top stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Rekha, Rajnikanth, Rishi Kapoor and Mithun... and despite his failure to make a film that stood the test of time he is one person who has managed to harbour substantial goodwill.

That would explain why he manages to get well known actors for his films. Dirty Politics boasts of a stellar cast that includes top rate actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni and Sushant Singh. Apart from of course a far less prolific, Mallika Sherawat.

But then, goodwill does not quite make a person a filmmaker. And if Bokadia's continued ride downhill is not a statement to that, I wonder what will be. Hence when we get into analyzing Dirty Politics, let me clarify 'Good' is already out of question. It is only 'how bad' that we would be discussing.

Dirty Politics is Bokadia's 'attempt' to depict on screen the political turmoil created some time back in the state of Rajasthan by a certain nurse called Bhanwari Devi. The story is about a dancer turned politician Anokhi Devi (very imaginative a name), who goes missing. One determined cop is hell bent on solving the mystery and in process takes the lid off a pandora's box. Prior to her disappearing, Anokhi (Mallika) is shown ambitiously trapping an old politician Dinanath (Om Puri) in her seductive charm. And sex-tape is after all the easiest way to realize her political aspirations.

The film is not without Bokadia's quintessential tendency of playing to the gallery and over the top screenplay with four hundred and twenty loopholes. So you have an item number, lustful scenes... and oh those abusive dialogues, crassness!

Alright to be fair, the first few minutes did make me hope that Bokadia is finally over his Lal Badshah and Khuda Kasam days. And then it was all back to his usual.

If only Bokadia stayed true to the inspiration! The film is low on production quality. Lesser we talk about the directorial abilities the better. It must take special talent to make actors like Naseer and Om Puri turn boring. It almost made me cry, wishing someone came to their rescue... and mine! Mallika is drab except when she dances. True talent there.

Would you watch Dirty Politics? I presume a certain loud news show telecast on TV every week night would be far more entertaining.
