Winner  ( UA ) (2017)  (Telugu)
Winner is a routine entertainer let down by poor treatment and narration. Some commercial elements stuffed here and there. Sai Dharam Tej should immediately retrospect his decision-making skills. Mahender Reddy (Jagapathi Babu) and his little son Siddhu (Sai Dharam Tej) have a great bonding but get a rift due to Reddy's father Dharmendra (Mukesh Rishi). As a result, Siddhu runs away from home and grows into an independent and dynamic young man Siddharth Reddy who heads a Newspaper. He falls in love with Sitara (Rakul Preet Singh) but had to get into a horse race challenge with Sitara's fiancee Aadhi (Thakur Anoop Singh). Rest of the story is all about how Siddhu trains up in what he hates and win his love as well as his long lost father.

Sai Dharam Tej is always promising and puts up an impressive show from looks to performance. He is the biggest asset for the film. Rakul Preet Singh is super gorgeous but then is mostly confined only to songs. The chemistry worked out big time for them. Thakur Anoop Singh looks like a perfect villain but then not used well. Jagapathi Babu and Mukesh Rishi are impressive as always. Vennela Kishore, Prudhvi and Ali managed some laughs here and there. Anasuya sizzled in an item song.

Gopichand has got an interesting plot but then squandered it with poor narration. The first half is fine with some comedy tracks working big time. The pre-interval twists are decent but then the second half collapsed right from the word go. The over action filled climax is a big letdown. Songs composed by Thaman are not great but a couple of them are good onscreen. The background score, however, is impressive. Editing is patchy. It is unbelievable that the makers have invested so much on a mid-range hero like Sai Dharam Tej.

Finally, Winner is a routine entertainer let down by poor treatment and narration. Some commercial elements stuffed here and there. Sai Dharam Tej should immediately retrospect his decision-making skills. Audience these days are not in a mood to handle such blatant mass masalas.
