Now he is called Salaam. Years ago he was Unnikrishnan. Fate was cruel to him. His parents were brutally killed before his very eyes when he was ten years old. He grew up in orphanages and on the streets. He did odd jobs for a living. He was jailed foe a murder somebody else committed. After years he is released. But fate does not spare him. A car-borne group of hoodlums fire a fusillade against him. Their target however, is Qasim Baba, a millionaire. The two become close.

Today Unnikrishnan, who has changed his name to Salaam, is the right arm of Qasim Baba, the uncrowned king of the port and the peripheral areas. Qasim Baba is an honest man and one who helps the poor and the needy. But he will not tolerate any unsocial or illegal activities in the area he has power over. This has antagonized smugglers and other unsocial elements. Salaam also becomes the target of their anger.

Don, the first film to be directed by Shaji Kailas with Dileep in the lead, will be a family thriller with emphasis on action and technology. Dileep plays the role of Salaam while Lal does the equally powerful role of Qasim Baba. Spot editing is used in the film, which is being shot in and around Ernakulam. Shaji Kailas plans to have the film wrapped up in 37 days flat and released simultaneously in 42 theatres ten days ahead of Onam.
