Thalappavu Preview
Cast: Prithviraj, Lal, Atul Kulkarni,Dhanya Mary, Jagath... Director: Madhu Paal
Madhupal, who is a well-known actor in Malayalam, makes his directorial debut with Thalappavu, a very sensitive film that dwells on matters of relevance. The film zooms in on the story of a naxalite youth named Joseph and also that of a police constable named Raveendran Pillai. The two share a very intense kind of bond, like that between brothers or the best of friends. There are times when Raveendran Pillai even seems to be identifying himself with the rebellious Joseph. But Fate has something else in store for the two. A twist in fate and Raveendran Pillai is bound to shoot and kill Joseph as part of his duty. Years go by. Raveendran Pillai is haunted by a guilty conscience.
While Prithviraj becomes Joseph (a character that has shades of the real-life naxalite Verghese), it's Lal who becomes Raveendran Pillai. Atul Kulkarni, who has impressed us much with his performance in films like Chandni Bar, Hey Ram, Page 3, Satta, Corporate etc makes his debut in Malayalam donning a key role in the film. (Of course Atul Kulkarni is not new to South Indian Cinema; he had done key roles in Hey Ram and Run).
Thalappavu makes comments on matters of social and political significance while at the same time zooming in on personal drama and relations, spanning a period of time starting from the 1970's down to the present age. Produced under the banner of Civic Cinemas, the film, which is already complete, will be brought to the theatres by Lal Release.
