Walt Kowalski, a racist Korean War veteran, catches a Hmong boy who tries to steal the veteran's 1972 Gran Torino as part of a gang initiation. Because the boy gets caught, the gang forces him to serve penance to Kowalski, who does not want him around.

At 78 Clint Eastwood continues to conceive ingeniously appropriate vehicles for himself. In "Gran Torino", he plays a cliche, upturned, rejuvenated and restored to a position of glory by some expert writing.
