It might sound pretty improbable that with all these fisticuffs on in full swing, the film barely manages to keep us awake. But I did manage a quick nap as God-knows-who took a severe pounding from God-knows-who-else.

So, who's the target audience of the Kalabhavan Mani-starrer 'Pramukhan'? His fans? Definitely not, because the film offers nothing at all to satisfy them. As for those who are not his fans, heaven help them. The fact is, 'Pramukhan' is not a Kalabhavan Mani starrer at all. He has just been used to launch new face Ajith Raj, who however turns out to be a poor actor.

Pramukhan is all about Kannan (Ajith Raj), who is known mostly as Palanimala Kannan, and who works for the sand-mining mafia, with Erode Bhadran Thampuran (Sivaji Guruvayoor) at the helm of affairs. Kannan and his gang (of goons and jesters) also enjoy the patronage of Prem Raj (Bheeman Reghu), the Circle Inspector of Police.

Arathy (Pooja), who is Bhadran Thampuran's niece and who is supposed to get married to his son Raveendran (Sreejith Ravi), falls for Kannan, who however doesn't reciprocate. It's then that Tommy Sebastian (Kalabhavan Mani), a daring cop, comes in and takes charge as the new Sub Inspector of Police. Tommy begins an aggressive campaign against illegal sand mining and clashes constantly with Kannan. The story takes off from there.

Kalabhavan Mani as Tommy Sebastian is his usual self, but owing to extremely poor scripting, his performance lacks life. Debutante Ajith Raj puts on a very poor show as Kannan. So too Pooja as Arathy. Most of the scenes in the film are ill-conceived, and the way they are rendered couldn't have been worse.

The story is unimpressive on the whole, but it could yet have made for a watchable movie, had the other aspects been good. That sadly, is not the case. The songs are below average, except for "En Unni neeye...", which though tolerably good, gets lost in the absolute mediocrity of the rest of the film. The technical aspects don't deserve any mention at all. To conclude, Pramukhan is a sheer waste of time and money.
