"Mayandi Kudumbathar" meaning Mayandi's family, is a parade of directors-turned-actors past their prime led by the bearded Manivannan.

Thespian Sivaji Ganeshan overacted in similar emotional tripe comprising of improbable family situations that went out of fashion in the sixties - made primarily to boost his sagging political career.

The tale is all about a family head Mayandi (Manivannan) whose offsprings fight like cats and calm down only after their old man's interventions.

The son, an engineering student Paraman (Tarun Gopi) woos the homely college-damsel Poongodi while the two families oppose the alliance for god only knows what.

One fine day Mayandi drops dead but everything ends well after the old man is rendered justice posthumously.

The cliched storyline has been seen in several Tamil plays earlier.

Manivannan does the expected and overacts - according screen-space to his erstwhile directorial colleagues who are all past their prime.

Cinematography, script, dialogues and music are silly and shoddy.
