Unnikrishnan Namboothiri is the youngest one of a famous Namboothiri family of Ottapalam. He is a student of Kathakali at Kalamandalam. Son of Raman Namboothiri and Sridevi Antharjjanam, Unni treats art as his life. He is a role model for everyone in the Kalamandalam due to his dedication to the art form and all the teachers and the students there love Unni very much.
It was then that Romish Mishel from France reaches Kalamandalam to study Kathakali. Romish becomes friendly with Unni.
Both of them find many similarities in their thoughts and dreams in relation to art. When Romish reveals her desire to study Malayalam, Unni readily agrees to become her Malayalam teacher. Soon there friendship develops into love.
Sethulekshmi, who is a music student at the Kalamandalam is very much disturbed by this relationship as she too was in love with Unni, without Unni being aware of it.
One day Unni Namboothiri reaches his Illam holding the hands of Mishel. But his parents find it as a mismatch and are not ready to nod to their marriage.
The eventful life faced by Unni Namboothiri and Mishel after they were denied by Unni's parents is being plotted in 'Aattakatha'.
Directed by Kannan Perumudiyoor, 'Aattakatha' tells the story through two periods of time. The film is an adaptation of the novel Cholliyattam by the director himself.
Vineeth and Irenajacobi are cast as Unni and Romish Mishel respectively. A native of Germany, Irenajacobi is a second year student of Kathakali. Meera Nandan acts Sethulekshmi.
Produced under the banner of Harisree Films International, the screenplay and dialogues are penned by Shatrugnan. Raveendran Master tunes music for the lines by Girish Puthenchery.
