'Pranchiyettan and the Saint', Ranjith's new film carries a lot of expectations with it, due to several reasons, the most significant one being that it marks the coming together of Ranjith and Mammootty after the much acclaimed 'Palery Manickyam'.
In 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint', Mammootty plays Pranchiyettan, a rice merchant based in Thrissur. Pranchiyettan has all the things that money can buy, and yet he lives with the desire to achieve something even more.
He yearns to achieve the Padmasri, the National honour that has been bestowed on several persons and ties every trick in the book to get one for himself. However, his attempts never bear fruit.
At a crucial stage in his life, he meets Poly (Ganapathi), a young boy who changes his life forever. Pranchi gets to learn a few facts about life from him.
Besides Mammootty and Ganapathy, the film has a host of other actors doing major roles, like Priyamani, Khushbu, Innocent, Tini Tom, Ramu, Siddique, T.G. Ravi, Idavela Babu and Sasi Kozhikode.
Venu handles the camera, while Vijay Shankar does the editing. The music of the film has been scored by Ouseppachan and the lyrics are by Shibu Chakravarthy.
With plenty of mysteries surrounding its plot, 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint' is one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year. The film would release in screens across the state on September 10.
