Being a character artist is no more a risk: Darshan Jariwala
  [ Sat, Mar 22, 2008 ]
  • Bollywood actor Darshan Jariwala of "Gandhi My Father" fame says that contrary to yesteryears, character actors are more than welcomed by the film industry.

After playing the serious role of Mahatma Gandhi in the critically acclaimed film, the actor was seen in gray shades in "Superstar" and "Halla Bol". He is now readying to slip into the character of Sitara in an out-and-out comedy film "Tara Sitara".

"Earlier, being typecast was necessary to sustain in Indian film industry. Taking creative risks wasn't a wise idea at all," Darshan told IANS.

"Now, it is vice-versa. Today, character actors enjoy huge acceptance and the credit goes to the advent of multiplexes, corporate investments in movies and the film industry becoming more organised," he added.
