French film 'The Artist' leads 69 Golden Globe Awards nomination

  • Los Angeles, Dec 16 (IANS) French romantic drama "The Artist" is leading the 69th Golden Globe Awards nomination list with six nods in different categories including best director, best actor and best screenplay.

    Close on the heels of "The Artist" are "The Descendants" and "The Help" with five nominations for each, while "The Ides Of March" and "Midnight In Paris" got four nominations each, says the release on the official website of the award.

    The nominations were announced Thursday and "The Artist" is nominated for the best motion picture, while Jean Dujardin is nominated for the best performance by an actor; Berenice Bejo for best performance by an actress in a supporting role; Michel Hazanavicius for best director and for best screenplay; Ludovic Bource is nominated for the best original score for the same movie.

    Based on American author Kathryn Stockett's novel of the same name, "The Help", which is set in the 1960s, is about African maids working for a white woman. The comedy-drama is helmed by Tate Taylor.

    Director Alexander Payne's "The Descendants" too is a screen adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings' novel and tells the story of a land baron, played by George Clooney, who tries to re-connect with his two daughters after his wife suffers an accident.

    Political thriller "The Ides of March", which is directed by Clooney and also stars him in a pivotal role, is an adaptation of Willimon's play "Farragut North".

    Midnight in Paris is Woody Allen's directorial venture and the romantic comedy about nostalgia and modernism was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

    Actresses like Glenn Close, Meryl Streep and Tilda Swinton are vying for the best actress tropy, while Hollywood's big names like George Clooney, Leonardo Dicaprio, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt are in the running for the best actor trophy.
