Keralite from UK under scrutiny for Internet movie piracy

  • New Jersey, Feb 22: File sharing website youtube which is owned by google yesterday helped trace a young man who uploaded a pirated copy of a Malayalam movie Arabiyum Ottakavum P.Madhavan Nairum in Oru Marubhoomikkada. The company that owns the international rights of the film in USA and Canada took matters into their own hands by filing a criminal case. Omega International, the US and Canada distributors have filed legal suit against a youtube user for uploading a pirated copy of the Malayalam Movie, "Arabiyum Ottakavum P.Madhavan Nairum in Oru Marubhoomikkada".

    After failing to remove the pirated copy from his website the company had to take legal matters to the next level and file criminal charges. Investigations led up to finding that the person is of Indian origin residing in the UK. The police in Merseyside, UK has logged the case against the young man. Youtube removed the video from the user's channel. Omega International is working with google in removing the film from the remaining users and filing legal action against those who have posted the film for copy right violations. Youtube users need to be aware that posting any type music, DVD, or video that has its copyright owned by another company is illegal. Those who will be convicted can face stiff fines that lead to millions and jail time.

    It is estimated that movies especially south Indian movies are loosing millions of dollars to internet piracy. The issue is getting worse day by day. These days one can find pirated copies of illegal downloads all over internet.
