Pirated CD sellers rough up police official in Kerala

  • Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 9 (IANS) Sellers of pirated CDs Saturday roughed up a member of the joint police team from Kerala and Tamil Nadu during a raid here to seize fake CDs of Tamil blockbuster "Vishwaroopam".

"After we had searched three shops in the Bheema Palli area, a group of people surrounded us, tore up the search warrant and then roughed me up," Tulasidaran Nair, a Kerala Police official, said.

The team, however, confiscated 345 pirated CDs of "Vishwaroopam" from shops in the area, which is just a stone's throw from the domestic terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram airport and has around 100 shops selling foreign goods, CDs and other fancy items.

A case against the attackers has been registered at the Poonthura police station.

"We have not made any arrests so far. But we have been able to identify 10 people who were behind this," a police official said.

Tamil Nadu Police had recently confiscated a pirated CD of "Vishwaroopam" from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. The person who possessed it told the police that he got it from Bheema Palli.

With a court order from Tamil Nadu, a joint team of Tamil Nadu Police and the anti-piracy cell of Kerala Police decided to carry out the raid at Bheema Palli to confiscate the pirated CDs, a police official said.
