April 9th was not just Akkineni Nageshwar Rao's day but also a day when the film industry was joined in celebrating a legend by the Chief Minister. ANR, the greatest acting legend after NTR, was felicitated on completing 75 years as an actor.
Attended by who's who of Tollywood, and Kiran Kumar Reddy, the event was held at TSR Lalitha Kala Parishad. The CM said that ANR was a great man who made the movement of Telugu film industry from Madras to Hyderabad possible. KKR said that film heroes were looked upon as role models and that their films, roles and costumes should, therefore, be decent and acceptable.
Chiranjeevi said that ANR was an exemplary actor, who has found a place in the hearts of the people. "When it comes to dances, he is my inspiration. I watched Dasara Bullodu a number of times just to watch his dance."
ANR delivered a reflective speech. He shared his experience and talked about his long and arduous journey rather succinctly. Saying he his life had not been a bed of roses, ANR said that he always believes in perseverance. "I never believe in luck. But looking back, I think I have to believe in luck! We will make progress when there are people around us who envy us. If I have been able to hold ground even after 75 years, that is possible because I have always offered variety (through a diverse roles)", he said.
