Sanjay Leela Bhansali assures that Mewar will be proud of his film Padmavati

While for Bollywood buffs, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, is the most awaited film, the continuous vandalism on the sets of the film is making it difficult for the director to finish shooting for his magnum opus.

First, the activists of Shree Rajput Karni Sena protested against and misbehaved with the crew of Padmavati in Jaipur's Jaigarh Fort, forcing Bhansali to stop shooting and recently the set of the film in Kolhapur was torched and burnt down by local activists.

Bhansali, who has earlier made Bajiroa Mastani, finally issued a statement clarifying that there is no romantic dream sequence or anything objectionable between Rani Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji in the movie.

In his letter addressed to all social organisations headquartered at Shree Rajput Sabha, Bhansali wrote, "As discussed with you, this is to specifically clarify that there is no romantic dream sequence or any objectionable/romantic scene between Rani Padmavati and Allauddin Khilji. We have been carefully researching and making the film. We are confident that Mewar Rajputana will be proud of the film made on their revered queen. We do not want to hurt any sentiments and would appreciate if all the social organisations and local people support us in making this film and making their queen revered by the world."

Speaking to Bombay Times, Bhansali said, "My team and I have carefully researched every aspect of information available on Rani Padmavati for making the film. There was never any alleged romantic scene, dream sequence or imaginary song between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji in the script. I repeat, there NEVER was and NOR is there any such scene between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji."

He further added, "As an artist, I too believe in the freedom of expression, but I'm also aware of the responsibility that comes along with this freedom. We do not intend to hurt the sentiments of any community and can confidently say that Mewar will be proud of the film. My team and I have met with some of the Rajput leaders, who, upon receipt of our clarification, have agreed to support us and have also signed our letter and promised cooperation in support of the making of the film. I hope this puts to rest all the misconceptions regarding the film."

Padmavati tells the story of Alauddin Khilji, the medieval-era Delhi ruler, who fell in love with Rajput queen Padmavati. Actors Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor star in the film.
