Lalgudi Jayaraman is no more

- Veteran violinist and composer, Lalgudi Jayaraman died in Chennai today. He was 82 and was not keeping well for some time after suffering a stroke. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter. His children, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and daughter GJR Vijayalakshmi are also well-known violinists.
Hailing from Lalgudi in Tiruchi district, Jayaraman has accompanied several stalwarts of music on the violin. He has played for Musiri Subramania Iyer, M.M. Dandapani Desikar, G. N. Balasubramaniam, Madurai Mani Iyer and Maharajapuram Santhanam to name a few.
He is known for coming up with a unique style in music, the Lalgudi Bani. His compositions are widely used not only in music but also in bharathanatyam.
The month of April seems to be a grief stricken one for the music fraternity as singer PB Sreenivas and music director Rama Moorthy had passed away recently.
