The B-town folk are a talented bunch. They act, they dance, do their own action stunts and some even style their own costumes. And then there are those who sing their own songs – a growing trend in the industry. Even the Khans have sung in their films like Ghulam, Josh and the likes. Though actors lending their voice to songs have been prevalent since the olden times, there has recently been a significant spurt in the number of stars who like to croon their own numbers – some for their own films while a few have even started pursuing music on a professional level. Such is the melody in their voices that you often can’t even guess that it’s not a trained singer but an actor behind the mike.

With several well – known faces earning huge acclaim for their harmonious songs, we put down a list of the singing stars that we have enjoyed listening to in recent times and would like to hear more often.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra is one versatile girl. From winning the Miss World crown to making a mark in films she has worked hard and emerged victorious. She surprised everyone when she took the leap into the world of music and signed a global recording contract with Universal Music Group. And the actress has gotten off to a great start with her debut single, ‘In my City’ featuring American rapper Will.I.am, becoming an instant success. Her vocal finesse and the upbeat nature of the song have been well received. Though we may not hear her singing for any film songs soon, she sure has a promising future in music.

Akshay Kumar

The action star continues to surprise us with his multi -faceted avatar – he is a martial arts champion, a fantastic actor, the master chef and has now proved his talent as a remarkable singer. Akshay Kumar has sung the soft ballad ‘Mujh Mein Tu’ for his recently released film ‘Special 26.’

Though this is not his first singing venture, he has earlier lent his voice to several songs including Nana-chi Taang from Khatta Meetha and also rapped with Snoop Dogg and Bohemia, this romantic number takes Akshay’s singing to a new level and is worthy of an applause. He has even dedicated this number to his wife, Twinkle Khanna.

Ranbir Kapoor

He is a Rockstar in the true sense of the word. Ranbir Kapoor has charmed the nation with his acting prowess, giving his contemporaries a run for their money. And the talented young Kapoor has recreated this even behind the mike as he took to singing, first for a piece in ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ and recently in a promotional video for the highly acclaimed film ‘Barfi’.

Both the numbers are distinct pieces and yet Ranbir, without any training in music, managed to blow away audiences with his talent. Especially ‘Fatafati’, a promotional number for Barfi showcases the enthusiasm and passion in his voice and also the competence of a good singer.

We would definitely want to hear more interesting songs from this Bollywood heartthrob.

Ayushmann Khurrana

‘Paani da rang’ is undoubtedly one of the most romantic songs of the year gone by. Sung by the charming Ayushmann Khurrana who debuted in the film not just as an actor but also as a singer, this song instantly touched the chords of the listeners.

Ayushmann wrote and composed this romantic Punjabi piece when he was in college but never got the right break to showcase it.

Though he has had a long association with music (but no formal training), little did he know that this college composition would go on to become such a rage thus giving Bollywood a gifted multi – talented actor cum singer. He will soon be crooning for his upcoming film ‘Nautanki Saala’

Amitabh Bachchan

And last but no where close to the least is Mr.Bachchan. The debonair artist par excellence has proved time and again that there is barely anything that he cannot do.

He is one of the few actors who has sung his own songs right from the beginning including chartbusters like ‘Mere Angane Mein’,’Yeh Kahaan Aa gaye’ and many more. It was a children’s song, ‘Mere Paas Aao’ from Mr. Natwarlal which was his first attempt at singing.

From then on Mr. Bachchan’s resounding voice, which on the one hand frightened villains, won the hearts of millions as he revealed his singing skills. And very recently he impressed us all over again by lending his voice for ‘Ekla cholo re’ for the film Kahaani. This was for the first time that he sung a Rabindra Sangeet and has done complete justice to Tagore’s masterpiece.

We look forward to many more timeless numbers from him.
