'Players' lacks the heart of a thriller and thus fails to qualify as an inspiring film.

'Players' is definitely not the kind of start Bollywood would have anticipated in 2012. In a way the film gives us a hint of what is to follow. The film that is believed to be inspired from 2003 blockbuster 'The Italian Job', fails to do justice to the inspiration.

When Charlie comes to learn about a booty, worth ten thousands crores, being transported from Russia to Romania, he reaches out to the ace thief, Victor. With Victor's help, Charlie manages to put together a team of highly successful 'Players', who have mastered the art of thievery. With only 10 minutes in hand, the team attempts to take home gold worth some zillion crores; how they do it forms the climax.

The

film may have been shot in some stylish and picturesque locations of the world but the characters definitely weren't as stylish as the ones in the original were. The cast of the film lacked energy big time and appeared to have only put in minimum effort. The action, tidy editing and stimulating cinematography are worth mentioning but overall output of the film is shortcoming. Instead of seeking inspiration from the two older versions of the original film; little did the duo Abbas-Mustan attempt anything innovative or spectacular. And, most importantly the film failed to reproduce emotions that the original versions managed to deliver. Performances by Abhishek and Bobby were lackluster, while Bipasha and Sonam besides acting showed everything that they could possibly flaunt and entertain one and all. Music by Pritam, if not brilliant is something to look out for. However, I still feel I'd pick Race over Players when it comes to music.
