Angry Babies Malayalam Movie
Saji Surendran's 'Angry Babies' hovers around that moment that lies between love, marriage and life. Playing out on the trouble that brews in a marital paradise, 'Angry Babies' sings a familiar tune, is sporadically funny and and makes little attempts whatsoever to take a detour from a much beaten path.
Jeevan Paul (Anoop Menon) is a freelance photographer by profession, and scoops away his lady love Sarah Thomas (Bhavana), from the church as another man gets all set to tie the knot with her. Jeevan and Sarah flee to Mumbai wherein they get busy designing a love nest of their own.
An year later, we find them at loggerheads with each other, ready to battle it out at the Mumbai family court, and demanding a mutual divorce. Much to their chagrin, the court orders them to stay together for another six months, making a final attempt to sort out their differences. Jeevan and Sarah realize that they have grown as far apart as two individuals possibly could be and look forward to starting their lives afresh without the other tugging at their backs.
When a new housemaid (Anusree) makes an entry, one realizes immediately that a triangle is all set to be formed. The Tamilian lass sprouts a soft corner for Jeevan,while Sarah pretends to have fallen for an affluent neighbor, Alex (Joju George).
The slapstick comedy ensues in the form of an extremely physical fight where in flour, turmeric and plenty of veggies are flung around. The scene that is intended to bring in some mirth, appears as messy as it must have looked on paper, generating very few laughs or giggles.
If you are on the lookout for some genuinely hilarious moments in 'Angry Babies', you might be in for a disappointment. The few attempts to generate some laughter border on the offensive, and hence when Jeevan pushes an undergarment into Alex's palms as part of a bit too warm handshake, its up to you to be amused or to simply throw up.
The best part of the two hour long show arrives at the very last moment, when Jeevan and Sarah indulge in a heart-to-heart conversation. Marked by a few pithy, sensible statements, this short sequence stands in stark contrast to the rest of the film.
Anoop Menon, looking a bit on the heavier side, does a neat job of playing Jeevan. Bhavana comes up with a sexy performance, funny though it may sound. Noby leaves a mark in a couple of scenes, and the very few sequences that are worth a smile in the film, are courtesy this extremely talented young actor.
'Angry Babies' provides no further insights on a topic that has been dealt with very often in cinema, and in much better ways. Unfortunately hence for the film, Jeevan, Sarah and their petty squabbles make no interesting material for us. Sorry, but we have been there, seen that!
