After an extremely promising debut with 'Matinee' Aneesh Upasana takes the thriller route in his second film 'Seconds' that ends up a cloying mess; a far cry from what it looks like in the beginning. 'Seconds' fails to hold together as a suspense drama, and despite all its embellishments and stimulating tangents fumbles up big time.

It's quite an elaborate tale that Aneesh plans to tell through 'Seconds', that has four major protagonists Veeramani (Jayasurya), Tina (Aparna Nair), Firoz (Vinay Fort) and Thambi (Vinayakan)caught together in the web of life. Hailing from diverse societal strata, the four of them find blood splattered all over on a fateful day in their lives.

The thrills and jolts that the film puts on show offers you plenty of stuff that should keep your thought mills working overboard. It even manages to make you believe that some real intriguing ideas must be lurking behind that veil of suspense, and with the non-linear narrative keeps you arrested, albeit for a short while.

But, 'Seconds' calls for very little stand-up-and-cheer kinda moments, and it lets itself down with dodgy dialogues and a totally anticlimactic ending. With that forced feel creeping in towards the very end, you realize that things wouldn't get any better, and arm yourselves for that do or die showdown. And when the disclosure arrives round the corner, you shake your head in discontent and head home.

It's tough to put all these characters together on the board and make up the jigsaw, and the way it has been done in 'Seconds' leaves a lot to be desired. If at the end of it all, 'Seconds' gives you a that-was-pretty-farfetched feeling, the makers only have the wobbly script to blame. I for one, would have loved to believe what's being told, but all those frenetic attempts to bring in some coherence into the plot show up real bad.

It's precisely at the peak that 'Seconds' topples down in a heap, making chances of a resurrection extremely remote. The suspense that has been built up with much cautiousness grins back at you right on your face, proclaiming loud and clear that you have been taken for a walk. Try hard as you may, you cannot pretend to ignore the glitches either.

This should clearly qualify as one lean phase for Jayasurya the actor, as 'Seconds' immediately follows another damp squib of his , 'Mathayi Kuzhappakaranalla', that was released last week. Another choice of the actor gone all wrong, is what I would presume. The other actors on the block, be it Aparna Nair or Vinay Fort, Vinayakan or Sankar Ramakrishnan, display no sparkling performances either.

I'm surprised that 'Seconds' has very little to offer in the technical department as well, as almost everything about it feels and sounds quite run of the mill. Suresh Rajan, and his no-nonsense cinematography does not create any magic on screen. There is the musical score by Gopi Sundar as well, that entirely fails to create an impact.

'Seconds' is a colossal misfire from Aneesh Upasana that will be forgotten in a hurry. It's a massive disappointment without doubt, and I truly hope that in his next directorial outing he has plenty more to say.
