Majnu Bengali Movie

Feature Film | 2013 | UA
Critics:
Director Rajib Biswas's Majnu is a sweet love story, with enough twists and turns. There is love and romance, there are family rifts and there is visual pleasure too. Extravagant outdoor shots, song and dance everything as a whole completes Majnu and makes it an entertaining watch.

Love stories are nothing new. Yet what is new is the treatment and of course a slight tweak and twist in the narrative every now and then. Director Rajib Biswas, in his new film Majnu subverts the conventional boundaries of love to give birth to nothing unconventional, but a slightly newer version of a quite age-old love story.

Meghna (Srabanti) is all set to get married, it is the arranged marriage format that she is ready to follow. Her marriage has been fixed with an NRI Arun, she like the good girl of the family does not resist the marriage. While something is bound to happen, that will change her destiny forever. Avik (Hiraan) is the son of Meghna's father's friend, he visits town when she is about to get engaged.

It is from here that the story progresses in a totally different direction.

The two Meghna and Avik are initially not that close, but eventually it is love that blooms between the two. Srabanti looks quite chirpy and beautiful all through the film and she helps in brewing the love with Hiraan quite well. She looks adorable in long gowns in the song sequences. The outdoor locales are a bit too forced as they straight away take us outside India, but still add to the romance and heightens the sweetness of Majnu.

Genuine love sequences and romance is evident in Majnu. The couple looks quite their parts and Hiraan is quite the hero of Majnu. The senior actors are genuine, Biswajeet Chakraborty and Kharaj Mukherjee are truly brilliant.

Director Rajib Biswas's Majnu is a sweet love story, with enough twists and turns. There is love and romance, there are family rifts and there is visual pleasure too. Extravagant outdoor shots, song and dance everything as a whole completes Majnu and makes it an entertaining watch.
