Critics:
Director Soukarya Ghosal's Pendulum is a mixed bag. Hopes of having a great film were quite high owing to the smart narrative. But, the impact that the film leaves behind is average.

: As the clock keeps ticking, every moment gives way to something new. Every tick witnesses a lot of moments all around. Every moment, every individual are tied to one another through the common idea of time. Debutant director Soukarya Ghosal explores the peculiarities associated with time in his film Pendulum.

The film revolves around different incidents happening at different places in the city. How time connects these incidents into a linear story line is the matter of fact for Pendulum.

The structure of the film establishes an inter connection between several sub plots originating into a bigger main plot. However the strings attached to each is not tied up well individually as well as collectively. The director has not worked well in refining the individual plots and thereby has not achieved success with the structure of Pendulum. Even though the film exposes a tight narrative but the gripping factor is completely absent. Director Soukarya Ghosal handpicks ordinary individual incidents from life as sub plots for Pendulum. But the exciting factor that he tries to bring in through time is almost negligible.

The character introduction happens at a very slow pace and in a very systematic manner, which does not prove much for the temperament of a film like this. A love story, a failed marriage, few dreams of achievement, rivalry, hope, science and a hint of magic are all brought together in Pendulum through the various stories and its characters.

Acting is the only bonus for Pendulum. Actors like Rajavata Dutta, Sreelekha Mitra, Rajesh Sharma, Radhika Apte and others play their parts with ease and take the film to the finish line.

Director Soukarya Ghosal's Pendulum is a mixed bag. Hopes of having a great film were quite high owing to the smart narrative. But, the impact that the film leaves behind is average. Watch the film for momentary thrill but do not expect a longer impact.
