Who is perfect? A kid born and raised by his biological parents or the one born to and raised by different set of parents. Is it really possible to define perfection in children by just understanding who have given them birth or raised them? It is like that unending debate, what comes first? Egg or hen. Director Ayananshu Banerjee's debut Bodhon is based on such imperfections. Incidentally he brings forth both sets of imperfections quite comfortably.

Bodhon is the story of a couple, who has an arranged marriage and have a very beautiful blooming love between them. The couple shares understanding love and care. Amidst the love and caring Ishani (Arpita Chatterjee) & Archismaan (joy Sengupta) find a new joy, with the birth of their first child katum. Years pass with happiness, when again the couple decides to adopt a baby girl.

Hell breaks loose when on the day of 'Mahalaya', at dawn katum faints. Bodhon begins from this crisis and as the doors open, we are taken inside the story of Archisman and Ishani in flashbacks through this crisis. The debutant director has tried to add a spark into the otherwise easy story, but at times his ways of creating mystery or drama through dialogues and camera seems too childish.

The treatment of the film, the way themes like autism, adoption, rare heart disease or even societal blockades have been showcased are too shaky and does not really create that appeal or even leave a mark.

Bodhon has been promoted as a mother's quest to discover the self within her through her two children. But unfortunately the idea of 'Bodhon' or invocation does not come out too well. The film could have been a lot tighter and should have been able to evoke the right amount of feelings.

Unlike a few remarkable productions by Tripod Entertainment in the past, Bodhon fails to leave that mark that we expected. But nevertheless a nice try. Actors Arpita Chatterjee and Joy Sengupta along with Mamata Shankar are the saving grace for Bodhon.

To summarise, watch Bodhon with no expectations, then probably you will get something worth liking in your own way.
