Jyothi Lakshmi Telugu Movie

Feature Film | 2015 | UA
Critics:
Jyothi Lakshmi is a social message film mixed with commercial elements to make it viable at the box office. While the commercial elements are very neatly embedded, Puri missed the plot in adding the required emotional depth to the film which makes it shallow. Jyothi Lakshmi can be at best a one time watch, if you have nothing to do this weekend.

Jyothi Lakshmi (Charmi) is the most in-demand prostitute at Gangubhai company run by Narayana Patwari (Ajay Gosh). One day, a young lad, Satya (Satyadev) comes there in search of Jyothi Lakshmi. He comes to Jyothi Lakshmi every day shelling big bucks but never even touches her. He asks her to marry him leaving behind the dirt. At first Jyothi Lakshmi do not take him seriously but later falls for his sincerity. They elope and get married. But Narayana Patwari is not at all interested in parting with his golden goose and comes haunting her. What happens next in Jyothi Lakshmi's story forms the rest.

This will be the best performance till date for Charmi. She acted very naturally in the role of a sex worker and is equally convincing as a strong woman in the second half of the film. Satyadev also makes an impact. Ajay Gosh was very convincing as a villain while Brahmi comes in and goes out with out a reason. His comedy track is also not impressive. Tarzan and Priyadarshini Ram are good in minor roles. Dhanraj, Sampoornesh Babu, Uttej and Nellore Giri spark in little roles.

We have seen stories like Jyothi Lakshmi in the past. But it appeared different with a mix of commercial elements and Puri's mark treatment. However while dealing with a social concept like prostitution, the emotions and the character depth are necessary. But Puri missed both of them. Audience should sympathetically relate to Jyothi Lakshmi before leading her to emotional scenes but Puri did not do it. Even though there are less number of punch dialogues, some of them are very effective.

PG Vinda's cinematography is excellent. Sunil Kashyap's song are like okay stuff but back ground score is impressive. Editing should have been more crispier. Production Values are good.
