Unakkena Venum Sollu Tamil Movie
Unakenna Venum Sollu is yet another wannabe horror film that has its intentions set right but lacks the finesse of a gripping script to make the execution click. The movie never takes off till the post interval sequence which sends a shiver down the spine to audiences.
Pooja (played by Jacqueline Prakash, who impresses with her variety of emotions and perfect dubbing) and Shiva (Gunalan Morgan) are a happy couple living in Singapore and they have a kid who suffers from a peculiar disease. A reluctant Pooja agrees to her family doctor's advice to get their son treated in Chennai in a famous hospital. As soon as they arrive to Chennai they realize that their guest house is haunted by a paranormal power which could be the main reason for her son's condition. This paranormal power is the spirit of a stillborn baby. What's the bond between this spirit and Pooja's family forms the story.
Even though the film succeeds marginally in showcasing the problems faced by a kid born out of living-together relationship and the anguish of a childless couple, the fact that it is packed with least number of scares to grab you by the throat is undeniable.
Pooja's regrets on her past mistakes and her efforts to save her child born out of the first marriage makes us feel pity for her in the latter half of the film. Though the climax leaves a mark on the viewers, the story hardly manages to captivate the attention of audiences from the beginning.
The technical department is another let down in the film with horrible visual effects and weird camera angles which intend to produce fake scares. Had debutant director Srinath Ramalingam focused more on his screenplay and aesthetics to bring to the fore the exuberance and atmosphere his film deserves, Unakenna Venum Sollu could have been a much better horror experience for cine-goers.
