'Muddugau' is just an awkward arrangement of a few outrageous lines and gags, most of which fall way off the mark. Sorry, but no kiss to this one.

For a film that revels in a classic usage in a yesteryear super hit, 'Muddugau' fares pretty lower than expected. Apparently inspired by the word from 'Thenmavin Kombathu', 'Muddugau' talks of how a kiss lands a youngster on the wrong side of things.

Bharath (Gokul Suresh) has a weird habit of kissing the person next to him, when in tremendous excitement. He falls in love Ganga (Arthana) and when she finally reciprocates his feelings, plants a kiss on the much dreaded gangster RamBo (Vijay Babu) with devastating consequences. Ruined beyond repair, RamBo resolves to hunt down Bharath and wreak vengeance on the boy who had wrecked his life through a kiss.

'Muddugau' has a mind-numbing first half that takes a while to be over and done with. Things do perk up a little bit - a wee little bit, in fact - during the latter half, and then it all moves to an unbelievably ludicrous climax that reminds you of a forced stage performance.

Reminding you of one of those sloppily written comic films of the eighties that would bring in all the characters in it on the final scenes, rushing and bumping into one another, 'Muddugau' sets its climax on a hotel top, with all its characters in attendance. What follows is a tremendously irrational scene that would make you let out a sigh in disbelief.

Its indeed some witty thinking to name the heroine as Ganga, and make Suresh Gopi's son yell 'Gange..' to her. But if only such very vagrant moments made a good film! For the most part, 'Muddugau' is pretty much a low point for almost everyone concerned, and I would rather wait for Gokul's next film to hit the screens.

RamBo's hunt for the boy culprit leads him to kidnapping all the boys in the city, who are then asked to kiss him one after the other. Apparently the don hopes to nab the offender when the familiar kiss lands again on his cheeks, and if the gay undertones that the scene supposedly has is your idea of fun and laughter, then 'Muddugau' might turn out to be amusing for you.

This is followed up by Ganga suddenly suspecting that she is pregnant, after having kissed Bharath once. The year is 2016, and much hilarity is expected to be built around an adolescent girl whose suspicions regarding pregnancy drive you nuts.

What is indeed funny in the film is the way the two petty ruffians (Soubin Shahir and Hareesh) who are obsessed with tele serials, run from pillar to post, having brushed RamBo the wrong way. Together they are a blast, and keep you delighted with their rejoinders.

'Muddugau' would probably be remembered for the very decent, uninhibited performance that Gokul Suresh comes up with. Equally impressive is the young female lead, Arthana and the couple does share an amazing chemistry on screen. Soubin Shahir and Hareesh bring the house down with their antics, and there is Vijay Babu as well who looks like he has sprained a muscle or two.

'Muddugau' is just an awkward arrangement of a few outrageous lines and gags, most of which fall way off the mark. Sorry, but no kiss to this one.
