Feature Film | 2015 | A | Drama
Critics:
The film is hilarious and unstoppable. Well, it does get one sided, but it never pledged to a love story. PKP2 delivers what it promises.

Four years back a film called Pyaar Ka Punchnama by a rookie director and unknown cast made a statement that none other film had ever managed. Unabashedly bashing love and girls, it worked rather well with the youth. One particular scene, a monologue, probably would rank among the most memorable scenes in a Bollywood film in the last decade. Needless to say, the idea of a sequel was always enticing. Hence PKP2.

Director Luv Ranjan knows that a sequel of PKP would work only if it has the same essence as the first. He not only keeps the theme same, he keeps the cast almost same too! He retains the three girls and one guy, while replacing two of the guys with almost similar faces. One change that he has made is making the characters some years older. He has even worked hard enough to keep an identical monologue - guaranteed to rain in those whistles and claps at the theaters. Needless to say PKP2 is a project aimed at reliving the success of the first one.

Much bigger in scale, PKP 2 is shot and edited stylishly. There are large scale sets erected for songs, and the producer's confidence in the film is apparent. The highlight of the film however is the dialogues. Evidently, lot of work has been put into writing the punch lines each scene has. And that keeps the laughs on, especially in the first half. The second half gets relatively more serious, but the humour does not dry out. There are plenty lines from this film too that should be remembered much after the film is gone.

Enabling the director to take this vision ahead are the actors; each one putting their best foot forward. Karthik Aaryan (earlier Tiwari) is the best known of the lot and hence a lot of focus is on him. He does not disappoint as he is paired up with Nusrat Bharucha for the third time in his short career. New boy Omkar Kapoor has got spunk. Sunny Singh too works well for his character. Among the girls, Nusrat gets the best of the lines and she passes her test. Sonalli Seygal (earlier Sehgall) and Ishita Raj (earlier Sharma) deliver.

With PKP director Luv Ranjan scores. The film is hilarious and unstoppable. Well, it does get one sided, but it never pledged to a love story. PKP2 delivers what it promises. And if you love the first film, there is no reason you will not like this. And if you have not watched the first, this one is no less entertaining!
