There is no denying the fact that the core premise on which 'Aadu puliyattam' is based holds promise. But where it wavers and tails off is in the execution of a fragile script that is weighed down by very middling technical support.

'Aadupuliyattam' is yet another let down from Kannan Thamarakkulam after the disastrous 'Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare'. While the former let a comic story line dart wayward, 'Aadupuliyattam' lets horror run haphazard.

It all starts with the hallucinations of Sathyajith (Jayaram), a successful builder, leading a very happy family life. His search for the reason behind these illusions leads him on to a tale that lies buried in time.

If you thought that the six hundred year old myth on which the film is grounded would mark the return of a much adored actor, probably you should think again. Even if 'Aadu puliyattam' sets the box office registers jingling, I would assert that this isn't the film that I want Jayaram to make a comeback in. frankly, he deserves much more than this hogwash.

'Aadupuliyattam' has very little scares in store, much to the disappointment of the horror film aficionado. The ones who are waiting to be jolted out of their seats will hence have to return home dejected. The dialogues are often infantile, and would remind one of a shoddily written evening sitcom that is to be pulled off air the coming week.

The horror film cliches on the other hand line up in abundance, and the film religiously sticks to all the conventions that one would expect of the genre. It has come to a point when the scrip of a run of the mill horror film is as predictable as the climax of a badly written whodunit. 'Aadupuliyattam' is no exception.

What is even more disheartening is the comic track that ironically leaves a lump in your throat. There are the umpteen number of questions that are left unanswered as well. But then I guess, in very unfortunate scenarios as these, the less inquired the better.

Where 'Aadupuliyattam' falls way below the expectations is when it comes to the graphics and special effects. It goes without saying that much money and efforts have been pumped in to create the desired effects, but to little avail. In an age when the viewer is exposed to state of the art technologies on screen, 'Aadupuliyattam' scores pretty low.

The length of the film (a staggering two and a half hours) would have been acceptable had it stuffed it up with plenty of memorable moments. Sadly, these are very few and far between, and the running time turns out to be a millstone for the film.

It's a pleasure to see an actor like Remya Krishnan on screen, and she would probably be the only reason why I would suggest that you should watch the film. Jayaram has nothing much to do in the film except what he has done in several films before, while Sheelu Abraham carries her routine act a bit further forward.

There is no denying the fact that the core premise on which 'Aadu puliyattam' is based holds promise. But where it wavers and tails off is in the execution of a fragile script that is weighed down by very middling technical support.
