Marubhoomiyile Aana Malayalam Movie
It's disheartening to see the director's filmography spiraling down, with each lackluster film that he has crafted of late. And it's even more distressing to note that V K Prakash has been squandering his abilities on non happening scripts like the one in question, for quite some time now.
Suku (Krishna Shankar) is invited to Qatar by a friend, and runs into a Sheikh Sultan Al Ahmed Khaleefa-and it goes on forever (Biju Menon) who is quite a character by himself. It isn't long before the tale shifts to Kerala, and what follows is a series of supposedly side-splitting sequences that defy all sense of reason and judgement.
I guess it's probably got to do with my sense of humor as well, since VKP's previous attempts at humor - whether it be '3 Kings' or 'Gulumal' - had unfortunately not gone down well with me. You wouldn't blame me then for approaching the desert elephant with caution, and despite all my apprehensions, I had to trudge back home all miserable.
There aren't any excuses for this film, and even after allowing it the one grand defense that it only intends to make its audience laugh, it hardly manages to serve its purpose. Spoof or no spoof, 'Marubhoomiyile Aana' gives comedies a bad name, and without doubt the entire (dis)credit needs to be attributed to its frail script.
'Marubhoomiyile Aana' scores an all time low among VKP films, and even enlists itself among the worst movies of the year as yet. And this, given the fact that it has a competent director at its helm, supported by an admirable cast.
This mind-numbing film however doesn't compromise on its running time, and goes on for a couple of hours and more. Scenarist Y V Rajesh looks hell bent on crafting up a succession of non-happenings, that he stitches up together into an ill fitting rag that was probably best left lying around in some corner.
For instance, there is a flashback to the Sheikh that would make you fall down on your knees and start worshipping the thought process that had generated it. Whichever way you look at it, there are these gaping holes that glare back at you, that are large enough to let your head through.
Biju Menon has been making some smart choices when it comes to his movies of late, and yet here is one that probably didn't even deserve a deliberation from the actor. It remains that he is the only reason why you stay put on your seat in the first place, and yet its disheartening to see an actor like him loiter around on a dismal scenario as this.
Ratheesh Vega is the man behind the musical score, and quite uncharacteristically of VKP films, there isn't anything admirable when it comes to the technicalities either. It also happens that with a script as middling as the one in question, everything else - even the relatively better features of the film - pales into oblivion.
'Marubhoomiyile Aana' is a wild and unfunny elephant that runs rampant on the desert, tearing down everything that lies on its path. A total thumbs down for this one!
