The horror cliches that 'Ghost Villa' is stacked up with, ensures that the film lacks an identity of any sort. Mostly mind numbing, it is a very run of the mill horror endeavor that suffers from the most vital of all flaws - lack of a substantial plot!

A juvenile horror films that shocks you with its inanity, 'Ghost Villa' gets almost all its moves wrong. Neither is the premise of the film intriguing nor does its strike us with its ingenuity, and worst of all, the film scores infinitely low on the number of scares as well.

So here is this spooky looking mansion that has been driving people away for all the wrong reasons that has been called Ghost Villa. Clouds loom large over this huge manor and those who have dared to step inside have often not made it back home alive!

The owner of the mansion, Rawther (Rajmohan Unnithan) has had it up this neck with the building woes, and decides to demolish it. A heavy storm blows and the workers run away scared, leaving everyone convinced that there is indeed something that lurks around in the eerie air all around Ghost Villa!

Anand (John), a man with an amazing prowess to communicate with spirits, agrees to unearth the secret that lies hidden in the dusty rooms of the villa. Together with his friends, he arrives at Ghost Villa only to discover Elsa (Parvathy Nambiar), who is being held by her kidnappers under ransom at the place.

I wish the film was pretty good on the creep front at least, and 'Ghost Villa' unfortunately is not. None of its ideas are ambitious either and there is a whole lot of stumbling that takes place that leaves a huge mess all around.

The script is more of a joke, and utilizes every tried and tested formula that is out there to cook up a story of sorts. And yet, there is precisely very little that actually comes to life in the film, that suffers from a significantly underwhelming climax as well.

And then there are the graphics that leave a lot to be desired as well, and neither the bees nor the spiders and bats succeed in bringing in an element of terror. On the contrary, there are scenes when you just wish they would go a bit softer on the visual effects so that the damage would remain minimal!

I wouldn't really ask to make me jump out of my seat every now and then, but the minimum essentials in any decent horror film are seriously found to be missing here! Forget the twists and turns, the story itself is as unterrifying as it gets.

Acting is strictly adequate, and John leads the pack of supporting actors as Kochu Preman, Balaji and Kottayam Naseer. Parvathy makes a decently chilling spirit, what with her intimidating, large eyes and a menacing snarl. There is nothing much to be mentioned regarding the technical aspects of the film as well!

The horror cliches that 'Ghost Villa' is stacked up with, ensures that the film lacks an identity of any sort. Mostly mind numbing, it is a very run of the mill horror endeavor that suffers from the most vital of all flaws - lack of a substantial plot!
