Bus 657 English Movie

Feature Film | 2016 | Action
Critics:
The movie was originally called Heist and is being released in India as Bus 657. Alas, the name change does not help the story that moves from implausible to ridiculous: after robbing a casino the robbers board a bus and take people hostage. The robber with a heart of gold even gets away with it.

Puhlees! When good guy is beaten up by the employer's big bad guy, one bad guy tells him, 'Let's rob the employer'! The good guy has been fired, and needs the money for his sick daughter's hospital bills. The bad guy just looks like he is a bad guy. The good guy says in a monologue, 'I was planning to do the same.' Then shouldn't he be saying,'No, thank you' to the bad guy?

But we go along because the employer is Robert de Niro in really bad diamante jewellery, oily hair and shiny suits, is the owner of a casino, someone who spouts lines like 'I don't give second chances' and then shoots people (or had them shot by his big bad guy). We also go along because we see good guy shed tears over his hospitalised daughter who says, 'I want you to be my hero. I want you to rescue me.'

You are not convinced but you watch good guy and bad guy turn into robbers with two more robbers who can only be described as collateral damage and scaredy cat. Obviously, the terrified robber in the getaway car gets away, so good guy, bad guy and collateral damage (he's shot!) have to hijack a bus.

We've seen Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in a bus careening down the highway before. So you know the checklist. The bus will have some terrified kid, token Asian person (either Indian or Chinese), loud old lady, someone who tries to be brave and fails... Of course, the good guy sympathises with terrified people on the bus. The bad guy shouts a lots and terrifies everyone. Cop cars chase them, news helicopters in the air report everything.

It's so tedious, you almost miss the one scene which uses Gina Carano's martial arts skill. The story plods through to something you would expect of a Bollywood B-grade film. The Villain is dying, needs to make amends with his daughter, the big bad guy is cruel, the good guy escapes other bad guys, smuggles the money to his sick daughter...

It's so tiresome, when the lights come on, your body feels like it has been in the longest bus ride on rough country roads...
