Forget the film, what I find more disparaging is the way it attempts to lure an audience into the cinema halls. Which is why I need to reiterate that if you are an admirer of Kalabavan Mani and his films, stay far away. Stay safe.

The USP of the film 'Poy Maranju Parayathe' is without doubt Kalabhavan Mani, and if you are one of those who are hoping to the see much adored late actor in action once again, you are likely to be let down big time. To put it bluntly across, film 'Poy Maranju Parayathe' is not the film that I would like to remember Mani for.

This is a plot that merits no discussion of sorts, and centres around a primitive household that has seen quite a few murders. Several years have passed since then, and the blood stains are yet to dry up! As much intriguing as it may sound, a fair warning needs to be issued that in the theatre, it's a different miserable story altogether.

Let's get a few things straight here. 'Poy Maranju Parayathe' has apparently undergone a rechristening quite recently, since it does look like it was originally titled 'Amazon Turning Point' - a film that has been languishing in the cans for quite a while now.

One hundred and thirty minutes of running time looks like a gross offense when it comes to a film 'Poy Maranju Parayathe' and if it looks like four hours to you, I wouldn't be surprised. It's been some time since I have seen such a haphazardly disconnected film that hangs around in bits and pieces, with coarse jerks in the narrative.

And there is the matter of tedium as well, and the film is tremendously tiring, so much so that it exhausts you beyond belief. The dialogues for the most part are ridiculous, and the execution even more dismal.

The insufferable length of the film makes you want to tear your hair strands apart, and you then start wondering how uninspiring things that get. The hackneyed situations line up one after the other, the humour is non-existent and the action totally missing!

The obviousness does not strike the viewer as a surprise, and the chestnuts rumble down as if there were no end to them! The characters look two dimensional, the story line boring, contrived and pointless to the core. The emptiness spills over from the script onto the film, and the corniness is there for all to see!

Kalabhavan Mani appears in an extended cameo in the film, and no, this film does not belong to him. It does not belong to the two young actors Gautham and Maqbool Salman either, or to Vimala Raman who looks like she has stepped into the wrong shoes.

Of the very few people who were walking out after the show one mumbled aloud as to what Mani was actually doing in the film! Very obviously a fan of the actor, the man sounded dreadfully dejected.

Forget the film, what I find more disparaging is the way it attempts to lure an audience into the cinema halls. Which is why I need to reiterate that if you are an admirer of Kalabavan Mani and his films, stay far away. Stay safe.
