Niruttara Synopsis

NIRUTTARA (UNANSWERED) is an episodic catalogue of the lives of Pradeep, Hamsa, Achinth and Shravya told in a non-linear narrative. It is a drama revolving around these 4 characters, their jaded relationships and a journey across India as they delve into exotic locales, music and to try and understand and re-evaluate life and its paradoxes. The Film traverses through narratives of Achinth, Pradeep and Hamsa as they are caught in a destructive cycle of start-stop and interconnected relationships.

Pradeep and Hamsa are a quintessential upper middle class couple who are professionally accomplished in their fields. Pradeep is an ambitious and dedicated VP of a corporate company and Hamsa is a trained Hindustani classical singer. However, they seem to be battling the complex, yet common issues in their marriage after the excitement seems to have worn out. Because of the decisions they make, their lives meander away from each other.

While Hamsa is still in search of emotional fulfillment and oneness with her husband, Pradeep doesn't see this void in his relationship, which creates a further rift between them. This conflict leads to Hamsa, in search of some isolation from her turmoil, to travel with Shravya, who is shooting a documentary on different folk music forms of India. Achinth meets Hamsa while helping out Shravya on the same documentary. Achinth is a carefree, passionate independent musician who is in love with life.

A pre-occupied Hamsa, the exuberant Achinth and a very pragmatic Shravya spend time, discovering music, themselves and their own perils and passions. While a repenting Pradeep reflects on his actions.

What transpires next is a dizzying roller coaster of emotions, as the characters attempt to understand the meaning of love, the value of relationships and find solace in their decisions and its repercussions.
