'Basheerinte Premalekhanam' is an inflated, frivolous and soulless romantic comedy.

Set in the 80's, "Basheerinte Premalekhanam" is camouflaged with a romantic title to relate a tale sans romance. The intention to narrate a love story in the backdrop of the arrival of television from the Gulf in a village bites the dust as writers Shinod, Shamseer and Bibin succeed solely to create love proposal scenes of lead pairs and their customary duet.

With other characters literally running here and there, the plot forgets the lead pair's budding romance and it leaves them in the lurch with regard to their roles in the story. Director Aneesh Anwar tries to portray the satire within the story that highlights the excitement of locals while seeing a television set for the first time and a parallel love story between Basheer and Soora. Let alone the romance, the lackluster story fails utterly to create satire, and it often degenerates into farce.

In his second outing, Farhaan Faazil as Basheer is a passable character while female lead Sana Althaf as Soora is just a catalyst of the plot. Major portions of the movie take place in the house of Hajiyar (Joy Mathew) where the arrival of a black and white TV generates curiosity among villagers. Basheer, a polytechnic graduate, is a regular visitor at Hajiyar's house to repair the TV and once he meets his daughter Soora there. Love blossoms between them with the help of Soora's grandmother (Sheela). But their romance takes a back seat when the director lets the events to go out of his control. What follows is enough to test your patience and stir up irritation.

In short, "Basheerinte Premalekhanam" is an inflated, frivolous and soulless romantic comedy.

K. R. Rejeesh's review is prejudiced and irrational. The story is set in the eighties. The director has taken special care to bring that feel in the audience. On several occasions, the movie took me to nostalgic memories. Farhaan, Sana, Joy Mathew, Manikandan, etc. have done their roles very well. Another remarkable thing is its photography. However the songs, neither the lyrics nor the tunes, reflect the simplicity and innocence of the eighties. A great achievement of Aneesh Anwar, the director!
