Vimanam Malayalam Movie
This film crucially faces the challenge of recreating the saga of a relentless youngster. Inspired by a true event, the options are open in"Vimaanam"for taking off sans any hindrance. Director Pradeep M. Nair hinges on the option of giving cinematic fripperies to a plot that has immense potential to become a realistic inspirational movie. The passion of Venkiteswaran alias Venkidi to make an aircraft on his own and his dream of flying with his beloved Janaki are clouded by predictable elements. So the excitement in the script, written by the director, trips over the trite factors.
The drama in the romance is superior to the hard work of Venkidi, which is delineated wrapped up in a haze, shifting the overtone to the love story that has been narrated with the support of duets. The performance of Prithviraj in the lead role once again soars to a unique terrain and the two stages of the life of the character are confidently portrayed. As a hearing-impaired person, Venkidi's achievements are mysterious, albeit the character bags the coveted honour Padma Bhushan.
The
"Vimaanam" gives the feel of a ploddingly conceived takeoff as an extraordinary tale is deprived of the focus it deserves. Some essential fine-tuning are missing in the process. Technically, the aircraft's take-off and the top-notch visuals by Shehnad Jalal are the highlights of the movie, which is inspired by the life of Saji. M. Thomas. Surprisingly, the result is low on spark.
