Vimaanam is based on the life of Saji Thomas, a differently-abled man from Kerala. It showcases how Saji, who had speech and hearing impairment, fought all odds and built a lightweight aircraft from recycled materials without any external support.

Anyone going to the theatre for seeing the inspiring life of Saji M Thomas will be disappointed as the movie had nothing to do with him other than that both had hearing impairment and that both had the dream of making and flying an aeroplane. What could have been a memorable movie degenerated into a box office romantic masala with only a few credits.
