Perched on a feeble script, 'Punyalan Private Limited' tries to enumerate the ill-practices of power and bureaucracy. Lack of intensity and slipshod treatment seriously affect the film.

If Joy Thakkolkaran was portrayed as a struggling entrepreneur in "Punyalan Agarbathis," it's sequel places him as the voice of the common man. Jayasurya remains in the charm of the character albeit he has a different purpose in "Punyalan Private Limited."The film is set in Thrissur, and Jayasurya does not have too much to emote in the sequel. The actor looks elan in his performance.

Here Ranjith Sankar diminishes the satire and focuses merely on airing protests through the protagonist against power and bureaucracy. Joy emerges with a new business venture this time but that riveting part fizzles out in a jiffy.

A trivial incident makes Joy start his battle against politicians and subsequently, his face-off with Chief Minister Sakthan Rajasekharan (Vijaya Raghavan) forces the film to attain the tag of social drama. Obviously, it fails to dovetail the narration and the treatment of Ranjith, from whom you would expect a social satire especially when he returns with the'Punyalan' franchise. From the outset, the humour scenes start to plummet and Dharmajan Bolghatty as Adv. Peer Thanesh provides brief relief.

Ranjith, who is also the scenarist, lambasts the passive public, unethical practices by the media and the social media platforms. The pent-up emotions of an ordinary man are unleashed but not effectively. The skin-deep references remain as a little whimper of protest. Besides, the blend of fancy in the form of the urge for protest against the rulers in a different manner becomes dramatic and it helps predict the outcome.

I have not watched such a casual and bizarre court scene as shot in this film. The judge, essayed by Sunil Sukhada, appears to be ridiculous, and one of the court scenes is a little embarrassing when the director resorts to the extreme to bring out laughter.

Perched on a feeble script, "Punyalan Private Limited" tries to enumerate the ill-practices of power and bureaucracy. Lack of intensity and slipshod treatment seriously affect the film.
