Maradona Malayalam Movie
Tovino Thomas is Maradona in this family-action drama, which has been conceived with the thread of hide-and-seek factor. Tovino appears graceful in this mediocre tale of redemption of the protagonist. The bad guy Maradona embraces the path of virtue solely due to the situations that force him to mend his ways positively. Indeed, romance is a vital factor in "Maradona" and it helps the plot progress interestingly for some time.
Maradona succumbs to romance, and he abruptly becomes a do-gooder. The events that lead to his transformation are bereft of vivid explanations. Newbie director Vishnu Narayan hinges on the apartment to further develop the plot but the tools adopted by him to justify the transformation of Maradona fail to hit the bull's eye!
Two bosom friends, Maradona and Sudhi (Tito Wilson), are on the run after brutally beating up Aravind (Shalu Rahim), son of former MP Koyikkal Chandrasekharan (Nisthar Ahamed), in a scuffle. Aravind is in a vegetable stage now. The politician's acolytes, Martin (Chemban Vinod) and Anu (Kichu Tellus), are searching for them everywhere. In Bengaluru, Maradona finds a safe haven at an apartment owned by the couple Nadiya (Leona Lishoy) and Sree (Jins Baskar). Sudhi is alone and he is changing his hideouts so often.
Maradona meets home nurse Asha, played by newcomer Sharanya R. Nair, in another apartment and he starts to realise the value of leading a meaningful life. "Maradona," scripted by Krishna Moorthy, has a promising start before floundering on its way in the latter half. Vishnu has conceived an impressive scene in which Maradona bashes up a lawyer at his house. But the director falters in reviving the initial hype he had created in some scenes. Thus the sloppy conclusion of the tale becomes inevitable.
Sharanya appears effortless as well as impressive in her debut. Tito Wilson as second-hand vehicle dealer has shades of toughness in his character. Ironically, when Sudhi's lighter side is revealed, it creates only tenuous sympathy among the viewers.
Sushin Shyam's music and Deepak. D. Menon's visuals embellish the scenes quite often. "Maradona" has revenge, romance and repentance except the essence to generate the required punch and thrill. The mediocre hide-and-seek game is full of familiar filmic components.
