Bachke Rehna Re Baba Hindi Movie

It’s so true that luck and outlook change every Friday in Bollywood. Rekha, who was absolutely gorgeous and gracious a week ago in her minuscule four-minute stint as a dancer in the last week release ‘Parineeta’, turns from a diva to devastating in a full-fledged role in this week’s ‘Bachke Rehna Re Baba’. Is this the same lady who was so very impressive in films like ‘Utsav’, ‘Umrao Jaan’ and ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’.

Also one wonders what did Paresh Rawal have in his mind while signing this flick. Rawal who is so dependable when it comes to playing comic characters is simply turned into a caricature in this chick flick. About Mallika Sherawat, well no comments. We simply didn’t have any expectations from her.

‘Bachke Rehna Re Baba’ is supposedly a sex-comedy but unfortunately it fails miserably in both the categories. Neither the comedy tickles you, nor the sex titillates. Attempted as a remake of the Hollywood flick ‘Heartbreakers’, how one wishes director Govind Menon to be at least good at copying a film. Forget imparting his-own touch, Menon cannot even be accredited for blatantly copying the original. What he ends up with is a product much below the mediocre.

Miss Mousi – Rukmini (Rekha) and Miss Niece – Padmini (Mallika Sherawat) are conniving duos who con millionaires by their seductive ways. While Rukmini leads them to the marriage path, Padmini lures them into seduction. Rukmini subsequently demands a hefty alimony amount for the divorce settlement!

In name of comedy the movie just serves noisy crap. All the performers tend to get theatrical and boisterous in attempting to be funny. At times you feel as if there was no script written for the movie and the scenes have just been maneuvered at the time of filming. Add to it the constant continuity lapses. Everything from Rekha’s sex appeal to Mallika’s oomph to Paresh Rawal’s Punjabi accent appears so fake.

The camera captures an overdose of the Mauritian locales. With the movie, Anu Malik turns a lyric writer while Rekha turns a playback singer though none of their works grab your attention.

Rekha goes over the top in every frame of the movie and seems to be quite uninterested in the proceedings. She makes a complete fool of herself. Mallika still unapologetically goes firm with her debut film belief that performing means flaunting cleavages and showering smooches in every scene of the movie. Unfortunately her exposure has already crossed the expiry date. Neither sexy, nor slutty, she’s simply yucky. Even with nil expectations Mallika disappoints. Her vocal chords just add to the audible trauma. Bad performer, bad voice and an even bad dancer! She can’t even qualify for a Bollywood item girl. Will somebody please tell her that a cabaret dance doesn’t mean just slapping your own butts! Moreover the Mallika-Rekha screen chemistry is simply horrible. The incompatibility between the two women is conspicuous in every scene of the movie.

One wonders as to why was Paresh Rawal cast as a Punjabi in the film. We would anytime prefer the Gujarati ‘Manilal’ from ‘Awara Pagal Deewana’ or the Marathi ‘Baburao Apte’ from ‘Hera Pheri’ to the loud, unnatural and flawed Punjabi ‘Monty’ of this flick. Karan Khanna who makes his debut with this movie regrettably doesn’t get any scope. As soon as he opens his mouth to utter a word, Mallika locks his lips with a smooch. Poor chap! And the one star you see there in the rating field above is thanks to Satish Shah who is the only bearable thing to happen to this movie. Unfortunately he too is marred by a weak characterization.

To sum up the title of the film speaks for itself. Indeed, ‘Bachke Rehna Re Baba’ from his traumatic torture!
