Ambili Malayalam Movie
In the backdrop of the greenery and scenic landscape in Kattappana, Ambili, played by Soubin Shahir, emerges the brightest of them all. The protagonist is childish in his acts but he tethers his dear ones with the bond of love. Aesthetic narration plays its part in kindling the right kind of emotion in you even in the absence of a perfect conflict. 'Ambili' establishes the emotional attachment among the characters in the first half before embracing the trappings of a road movie.
The mien of Ambili suggests that he is a dimwit. But this is in contrast to Tina's (Tanvi Ram) perceptions of him. She loves Ambili after realizing his innocence that is blended with amiable nature. Ambili's maturity lies in his never-ending thirst for caring the people around him. Getting bashed up by Bobby Kurian (Naveen Nazim) never ceases him from accompanying Bobby in his life's important mission: a solo bicycle journey to Kashmir. Bobby tries to send him away but Ambili refuses to budge.
Being the national-level cycling champion, Bobby expresses his displeasure at the reception meeting organized for him in the village by Ambili, who does it out of sheer affection towards Bobby. Villagers like shop owner Vijayan (Jaffer Idukki) makes the most of his innocence by evading the rent payment after citing lame reasons.
Writer-director Johnpaul George has sensibly made the characterization of Ambili by quelling even the slightest chances of comparisons that might be alluded to such characters from the past (Pratap Pothen in the film 'Thakara' holds a towering status in playing a dimwit). Ambili keeps a passionate relationship with Bobby's family since his childhood. When Bobby sets off a bicycle journey to Kashmir, he accompanies him.
Johnpaul creates a refined version of such an innocent personality by curbing the histrionics to the minimal. Soubin spreads the power of the titular role with his peerless depiction that takes 'Ambili' to the pinnacle of the aesthetic portrayal of powerful emotions. The film acquires superlative of feel-good emotion all of a sudden and it happens rightly in the prologue. The way Johnpaul, who made a mark with debut film 'Guppy', puts it across to the viewers is impressive as his deft craft timely usurps the regular pattern of all kinds.
Rejuvenating and refreshing, the tender feel-good emotion the film creates is powerfully translated through the character Ambili, and it is played admiringly by Soubin Shahir. Ambili is a large-hearted man living in the emotional moments of his past. Through Soubin's stupendous act, each layer of Ambili's trait is beautifully unfolded here.
Newbie actress Tanvi contributes adequately to this unique bond of love being permeated with elan by the filmmaker. Composer Vishnu Vijay offers a couple of good songs while Sharan Velayudhan's captivating visual extravaganza is appealing throughout.
