Anjaam Pathira Malayalam Movie
The premise of this crime thriller is intriguing and engaging all the time despite its familiar pattern. Sowing the seeds of mystery and suspense right from the off, writer-director Midhun Manuel Thomas ensures that the script consumes all the traits of a thriller. Obviously, the format is conceived in such a way that it immerses the viewers into the depths of suspense, especially throughout the first half as they wait for the real culprit of serial killings. Midhun's narration is a low-key affair and the natural circumstances in the tale lend a convincing mode to 'Anjaam Pathira' to an extent.
Here, the target of the serial killer is police officers, who were found dead in mysterious circumstances but the manner of the killings is the same. Top police officer Catherine Maria, played by Unnimaya Prasad, takes charge of the case, and she is assisted by her deputy Anil (Jinu Joseph). As they are unable to find a lead in the first murder of a police officer, Anil seeks the help of his friend and private criminologist Anwar Hussain, essayed by Kunchacko Boban.
While they rack their heads for answers to the murder, another officer is killed in the same manner. Now they feel that the killer is on the prowl in the city. But Anwar is unable to provide any solution to the police regarding the investigation. He finds an expert hacker (Sreenath Bhasi), who joins their team to identify the culprit. Even then, two more murders occur on the outskirts of the city, creating panic in the police force. Anwar becomes restless, so is Catherine and Anil.
The motive of the killer is elusive for them and that sets up the real suspense in 'Anjaam Pathira'. Having said that Midhun's screenplay sways towards the predictable side as you would have thought about the tale of typical psychopaths. The tech-savvy young hacker's findings for police and the events that link to the main plot might not fulfill your curiosity in the second half. The path of investigation is hardly free from flaws yet the decent attempt is satisfyingly engaging.
Anwar becomes gloomy as he finds the probe leads them to nowhere and his wife Fathima (Ramya Nambeesan) gives him some suggestions. Kunchacko as an ordinary individual with grave looks shows the maturity as well as the drawbacks of the character in the face of crisis. Unnimaya appears in a full-length prominent role for the first time, and she sustains the expectations high.
The thread of suspense becomes loosened when the film embraces the familiar template of thriller flicks about psychopaths. The pace of suspense gradually becomes slackened when the flashback is revealed. Still, the scoring part of 'Anjaam Paathira' lies in generating the periphery of suspense handsomely. Notable is the background score by Sushin Shyam and cinematography by Shyju Khalid in the film.
