Sivakasi Tamil Movie
"...Avan solli adicha, GHILLI mathiri; Avan sollamal adichaa, THIRUPAATCHI mathiri; Avan sollittum sollamal adichaal, avan SIVAKASI..." No better dialogue for director Perarasu to launch his second directorial venture Sivakasi. Perarasu himself pens the story, screenplay, dialogues, and lyrics, and also dons the director's cap in A M Ratnam's Sri Surya Movies' Sivakasi. Perarasu, who directed Vijay in his debut venture Thirupaatchi has gone one better with Sivakasi. Music by Srikanth Deva is exclusively for the front-benchers. Fast-paced but realistic stunt scenes and superb dialogue delivery between Vijay & Prakash Raj are the highlights of the movie; Prakash Raj mouths his famous," Chellam, I Love You!" line in this one too.
Vijay plays Sivakasi, a welder who left his obscure village to seek his fortunes in Chennai, and has never returned. He falls in love with Asin, who wants his parents to come to her house and ask for her hand in marriage. Sivakasi goes to his native village, only to find his father dead, his mother living in disgrace in her own house, and his sister married and packed off in a disgraceful manner - all through the machinations of elder brother played by Prakash Raj. Through the rest of the movie Sivakasi goes about setting things right.
The film has all the typical ingredients of a potboiler, with characters thrown in from various other movies such as the mechanic kid from Kadhal, the beggar comedian from Raam, the dreaded female vamp from Dhool and two characters from Thirupaatchi itself - the marriage broker and the one who played Vijay's brother-in-law in that film. Like Thirupaatchi, Sivakasi keeps up the momentum throughout, but the new release has more realistic elements in the story. If Thirupaatchi starts in a remote village & ends in Chennai, Sivakasi does the opposite.
Vijay displays the antics and mannerisms that have endeared him to the Tamil audience. The film throws up good opportunities for small-time comedians, who play Vijay's friends in Chennai as well as in his native village. Geetha, yesteryear's super heroine, makes a comeback as Vijay's mother. Prakash Raj does well as Vijay's elder brother and the film's baddie. Asin is the perfect foil for the mischievous Vijay. Devan plays Asin's father. Nayantara appears just for a dance scene. If Thirupaatchi was fun watching, Sivakasi is an out and out entertainer.
