Mitaayi Mane directed by Aarathi defies the conventional ways of film narration, but still makes a strong impact on the viewers. The film directed by Kannada film industry's former leading actress Aarathi deals with the issue of exploitation of child labour. It is difficult to be categorized as either a children film or adult film, as there is lot of seriousness with which the director and script writer have focused on this social evil. Aarathi showcases her talents in her first directorial venture which has already won the Best film award in the Children film section from the Government of Karnataka. The film was also premiered in the 14 th Children Film Festival in Hyderabad.

Aarathi is adequately supported by a good script work done by her daughter Yashaswini. The film realistically portrays the tragedy of young children who fall under the trap of child labour. For the people who have watched Aarathi as a good actress will find a refreshing change in her persona as a competent director. It is really a wonderful transformation. Aarathi makes an honest attempt in her first venture and there is a latent sensitivity that could be seen in every sequence of the film. She is adequately supported by a good technical team which includes young and talented cinematographer Santhosh Pathaje and Editor B.S.Kemparaj. Script writer Yashaswini has managed to weave together the real life story with that of a German fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. Aarathi has also used a puppet show in the beginning of the film like a curtain raiser to narrate the story of the film. Aarathi shows a great sense of commitment and transparent honesty in making this film. She has not made use of commercial A right ambience is created and she does not fall into the trap of making an usual commercial formula film. Some real life incidents are weaved into a powerfully narrated story.

Mitaayi Mane is a haunting film which narrates the tragedy of the protagonist Ganga who is being exploited for the child labour. Ganga alias Putti is being exploited at the expense of her pitiable poor condition. The film succeeds in making a great impact on viewers by providing a human perspective on the causes and consequences of the child labour.

Mitaayi Mane has the story of a young eleven year old Ganga alias Putti who works as a maid servant in a middle class family. She has been made to work as a maid servant in the house only because her starving parents in the nearby rural village feel it is a better alternative to send her to the city than to see her starving days together. Then the film illustrates though Ganga's own perspective as to how she is being exploited and how her aspirations are quelled.

Child artist Aditi comes out with a strong performance as Putti and same could be said about other child artists. Dharmendra and Panchami as the middle class couple who engage Putti have also shined. Well known Television artist Surabhi Herur shines in the role of Ganga's mother. Mitaayi Mane' is a classy film that comes out from the first time director Aarathi who has proved her merit in her first film.
