Maa Hindi Movie
A mother transforms into the goddess Kali to battle a demon's curse involving fear, blood, and betrayal.
Kajol leads the charge in Maa, a horror-drama steeped in mythological themes, but the film falters in execution. Critics unanimously highlight her committed performance as the film’s only consistent strength, with many noting how her screen presence elevates otherwise underwhelming material. However, the storytelling suffers from an erratic tone, a weak emotional core, and a muddled narrative structure. While the film attempts to tackle grand ideas like smashing patriarchy and mythological horror, it lacks the cohesion and intensity to leave a lasting impact. The visuals and effects are occasionally impressive, but they are let down by a generic plot, undercooked horror elements, and a pace that drags, especially in the second half.
Verdict:
Despite Kajol’s earnest performance, Maa struggles with uneven storytelling and fails to capitalize on its rich myth-fantasy potential. A missed opportunity that may only appeal to Kajol’s fans.
