The hype surrounding "Dasavatharam'' has almost reached the pinnacle with the release date nearing. Producer Aascar (formerly Oscar) Ravichandran has now postponed the release of the film from June 6 to June 13 as he is not sure that pre-production work would be completed in time for the June 6 release.

"Dasavatharam" featuring Kamal in 10 different roles has been described by director K.S. Ravikumar as his "magnum opus". It has taken him 22 months from the day of the pooja to the printing of the first copy. "I am very happy with the final product. It will be a landmark in the history of Tamil cinema and we can be proud of it," he said in a pre-release interview to a multi-edition English daily.

The storyline of "Dasavatharam" is still under wraps. Ravikumar refuses to talk about it. He would only say that it is an action adventure movie with a nice message narrated in an entertaining manner. "In a nutshell, the film encompasses our concern for the environment, science and faith. Kamal is magical - tell me another actor who can portray 10 different roles in a single film."

According to Ravikumar, the hero's ten roles in the film are completely different from each other. Each character Kamal has portrayed has a different kind of color and skin tone, which required a different kind of make-up. The lingo he used in the film also varies from character to character.

In the beginning of the film, the 12th century period is depicted in a stunningly realistic manner. Later, the US space centre, superbly created by art director Prabhakaran, is another highlight.

Ravikumar feels the chase and fight scenes in the film will be a major draw.

"Eighty-five to 90 percent of the film has graphics and special effects. The climax tsunami scenes and some complex visual effects by Hollywood's leading visual effects supervisor (VFX) Brian Jennings are mind blowing."

Defending the music by Himmesh Reshammiya though it has not been well received, Ravikumar says in the interview that the songs are topping the charts. The numbers, "Kallaimattum Kandal... and "Ulanayagane" are rocking the charts on radio. (The lyrics are by Vairamuthu). "I think once the film releases, it will do even better.

Cinematographer Ravi Varman has taken special care over filming of the songs."

The entire film has been shot in super35 MM and 4K camera to make it look visually stunning.

Claiming that the film has all the ingredients to become a blockbuster, Ravikumar adds, "My strategy has always been straightforward and simple story telling with maximum entertainment."
