Kannada films have achieved a rare distinction these days when a majority of films released or either remade or inspired heavily from non Kannada films. But there are a few exceptions when some young directors like S.M.Patil are trying hard to slowly build up their careers and reputations by writing stories and script on their own. But unfortunately these young directors have lost touch with the present day events and still thinking about the formulas of yesteryears.

"Nanna Kanasina Hoove" the first directorial venture fails because of Patil's failure to grasp the finer elements of the present cinema. Both technically and musically the film is abysmally low on quality and the director has also failed to generate any interest in narrating the story of the film.

As a writer, Patil should know that film is a visual medium which needs strong visual support to appeal the larger section of the audience. Producer Vasudeva Joshi who has launched his son Vinayak Joshi (comedy actor of many Kannada films) through "Nanna Kanasina Hoove" has also lacked the vision about how to present a new hero in a love story.

"Nanna Kanasina Hoove" is about dreams and dreams and dreams. The hero who is brought up in a poor middle class family is warned by his mother that he should not dream as he is from a poor family. But hero is a dreamer.

The heroine who is from a rich family is also a dreamer of sorts, but her dreams will turn out to be a fake dream. But the film's hero dreams big and achieves it. Have we not heard President Dr.Abdul Kalam that youngsters should dream and achieve? But our film's hero Deepu dreams of his love all the time and is being helped and warned simultaneously by his friends and mother.

Rani (Keerthana) gets regular phone calls from Deepu and she also starts dreaming of the telephone lover. When Keerthana's search is on, Deepu also tries to meet her several times but is often prevented. Keerthana's friend weaves a web of deceit to introduce her own boy friend as the real Deepu with a view to usurp the property.

Deepu is shocked over this fraud and finds that Keerthana has lost her property. Deepu helps Keerthana to win a legal battle and her property. After becoming a noted singer on his own, Deepu reveals his true identity to Keerthana. Deepu and Keerthana are united.

This one hundred forty minute story is narrated in haphazard fashion and it needs a lot of patience to go through the narration of the film.

The director takes a torturous route of heavy dialogues to narrate the story. The film is made in a tight budget and evidence of this fact is exhibited in every sequence of the film. But even then the confusion of the director is more profound as even with a limited budget, the story could have been narrated in a straight forward manner.

The film reminds you of "Beladingala Baale" directed by Sunil Kumar Desair, but comparisons should stop at that. Vinayaka Joshi has tried to do his best in the role. Keerthana is wasted. Most of the television actors who have acted in important roles of the film fail to provide the professional touch to their performances. Neither the photography nor the music is inspiring.

"Nanna Kanasina Hoove" is a wasted effort by director and waste of time for viewers.
