Khoya Khoya Chand is a tribute to the Golden Age of the Hindi film industry, 1950-60's, its people and their inspirational lives. So is it yet another analogy of Sudhir Mishra or has he taken a different route for a change? Unlike his other movies which have received only critical acclaim, will Khoya win over the hearts of the masses and see commercial success? Let's figure out!!!

Khoya Khoya Chand is a film about two young people afloat in the film industry of the wild 1950s. The harsh reality behind the glittering dreams and stardom is brought to light in this movie. The movie revolves around Nikhat, a young girl who goes from being a fledging extra, to a starlet to a great heroine, and Zafar, through whom we see the triumphs and travails of a writer-director of the 1950's. It's about the volatile love that they can neither live with, nor without and the heartbreaking choices they often have to make.

Khoya Khoya Chand could have worked out among the masses if only its execution was done with precision and dexterity. Sudhir Mishra's direction falls short to take this interesting script to great heights. The movie begins with a slow pace and just when you feel that the pace has picked up, it dips yet again. Also the screenplay at times is confusing. It gets unclear with time whether the sequence is part of the actual movie or the movie within. Also the relationship that some characters share is unclear. No effort is taken to answer these qualms. Set in the backdrop of 60's, the magic of that era is not created effectively which is a huge snag. The runtime of the movie could be easily reduced by 20 min approx by deleting certain sequences which have just no significance in the movie. The only thing that comes to relief is the music by Shantanu Moitra. The title track and 'Tirak Tirak' songs stand out.

When it comes to performance Soha Ali Khan stands out. She is a revelation and a growing talent. She outshines the rest of cast also because her role is such that the focus is always on her.

Shiney Ahuja performance is mediocre. His expression is not to the mark and at times puts across a strained look.

Rajat Kapoor is good and is the best cast for the character. Vinay Pathak is excellent in his sidekick role. Saurabh Shukla is good as the Punjabi producer.

Overall Khoya Khoya Chand is a let down and lost in translation. It's just another stereotype of Sudhir Mishra movie. Not for the masses. Watch with low expectations and you might like it.
