The most awaited comeback after Kajol in Fanaa. Undoubtedly the queen of Hindi cinema, Madhuri Dixit makes a grand return to the silver screen.

First the story... After nearly 11 years Dia (Madhuri Dixit) gets a call from her hometown Shamli notifying her about the ill health of her guru Makarand (Darshan Zariwala). She takes it upon her to save the Ajanta Theatre from demolishing, the place that her guru nurtured with love and taught her how to live and dance. But she has only two months time to prove the importance and value of the monument. With the help of Doctor (Raghubir Yadav), the caretaker of Ajanta, Dia sets out on a mission to prevent the destruction and resurrect the spirit of Ajanta.

With her motley team of non starters - a low level muscle Imran (Kunal Kapoor), the local tomboy Anokhi (Konkona Sen), local ex-MLA Chaudhary Om Singh (Akhilendra Mishra), a vulnerable tea stall owner Mohan Sharma (Ranvir Shorey), a responsible government official Mr. Chojar (Vinay Pathak), a struggling insurance agent Sanjeev Mehta (Jugal Hansraj), the town vagabond Dhankuber (Nowaz) and a host of others, Dia gets into action with confidence and aim to save the Ajanta from destruction.

Aaja Nachle begins on a slow note but as the intermission approaches the movie picks up. The first half is entertaining in bits; the selection of members for the play is hilarious. The second half is average, and more than the execution it is the script that is filled with flaws. Dia returns to her village after more than a decade, yet there is no mention of her parents, not even an effort to find them? Hmm. Strange! The climax is extremely boring; most parts of it should be chopped off immediately for better impact. And what's with those grand sets? How could Dia or the villagers afford it? When were all those arrangements done? The movie starts off very realistically but in the second half a lot of cinematic liberties are taken. Flaws in the script apart, Aaja Nachle doesn't keep you engrossed. Madhuri definitely should have chosen a better movie / script for her comeback. Dialogues are good. The cinematography is top-notch.

In the acting department, Madhuri Dixit is brilliant whether it's dancing, emoting with her eyes or her dialogue delivery. She hasn't lost one bit of her charm. Looking forward to more of Madhuri movies in the future. The supporting actors are good. Akshay Khanna is the surprise package; he is brilliant. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw him on screen, wasn't aware he was a part of the movie. Kunal Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma are competent. It's a treat to watch Ranbir Shorey and Vinay Pathak dance; they are brilliant in their roles. Irrfan Khan and Divya Dutta are good.

To sum things up, Aaja Nachle is a average movie which could have been a lot better, the script lets the director and the movie down. Yet another disappointment this year from the mighty Yashraj Films.

If you are a Madhuri Dixit fan, you might enjoy it. For the rest, watch it once for the sheer brilliance of Madhuri.
