Bhukailas Telugu Movie
The fact that Venumadhav has oodles of acting talent has long been established. Over the years he has carved a niche for himself as a comedian. The audience knows what to expect from him. And the moment he appears on the screen the element of anticipation swells in viewers. Venumadhav doesn't disappoint them. More often than not he brings the house down with his facial expressions, dialog delivery, and comic timing.
Mostly he has been a hero's side kick in movies. Bhukailash is his graduation exams as a lead actor that he passes comfortably. His colleague Sunil has done the same with Andala Ramudu a few months ago with high scores. Venunadhav may not match that but he delivers a fairly entertaining movie.
Director Sivanageswara Rao that introduced Venumadhav to films has cast him as the hero of Bhukailash. It was nearly a gamble that has paid off handsomely. The movie is running to packed houses. Partly because of an abundance of cleavages and jokes the movie remains hot and hilarious in the first half. The second half is a dampener and feeds the audience (whose appetite is whetted for more jokes) with the display of reckless grandeur laced with some patchwork of comedy. The second half couldn't sustain the tempo set by the first half. Yet, the movie is an entertaining one.
Bhukailash sends out a strong message that money, even if it amounts to a thousand millions, can vanish in a few months and bring in misery if the possessor is given to delusions of grandeur. The movie is not preachy. But it drives the point effectively that it is easy to earn money than win over people who really love you. Money brings many friends and acquaintances, most of whom prove to be pretenders. The protagonist of the movie Bhukailash learns this the hard way.
Kailash, a milkman and a farmer, strikes it rich by selling his two acres of land adjacent to an upcoming ring road. He sells his lands for a whooping billion rupees because of the real estate boom. With the arrival of sack loads of cash he looses his values. He refuses to marry his childhood sweetheart, breaks his engagement, and goes to the city to have a good life. What happens next is best answered by watching the movie.
Sivanageswara Rao leaves behind so many loose ends in the movie. The comedy track of Sunil and Brahmanandam is neither here nor there, hovering between comedy and seriousness. The same comedy track also has a weak link to the story.
Barring a few bloomers Bhukailash is a well made movie. The jokes involving Raghu Babu are worth watching. And the movie has all the ingredients to be liked by the audiences those who want to have a good time at the theatres and are less likely to analyze critically.
